The National University of Tainan, located in Tainan City, which is regarded as ‘the capital of culture and history’, and has rich traditional arts and cultural heritage. Initially established as a teacher training school, it evolved into a teachers' college before achieving university status. Over the years, it has played a pivotal role in cultivating exceptional art educators and professionals.
In 2004, the department changed its name as “Department of Fine Arts” by the agreement of the Ministry of Education. By 2006, the department expanded to include both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In 2014, it was rebranded as the Department of Visual Arts and Design to better reflect its comprehensive focus on art practice, art theory, and art administration. Additionally, it offers high school teacher training programs in the fields of arts and humanities, contributing to the enhancement of art education and cultural development nationwide.
