BA Program Curriculum

Curriculum Structure(Applicable to students admitted in the 2025 Academic Year)

 

I. Graduation Requirement: Minimum of 128 Credits

(A) General Education Courses: 30 Credits in Total

  1. University Core Required Courses: 12 credits
  2. Elective Courses by Domain: At least 12 credits
    • Students must complete courses in at least three of the four major domains:
      • Humanities, History, Philosophy, and Arts
      • Social Dynamics
      • Life Sciences
      • Technological Exploration
  3. Diverse Curriculum: Up to 6 credits

(B) Major (Professional) Courses: 78 Credits in Total

  1. College Core Required Courses: 2 credits

  2. Departmental Requirements: 76 credits, including

    • Required Courses of the Department

    • Core Elective Courses of the Department

(C) Free Electives: At least 20 Credits

  1. Students may take Departmental Elective Courses

  2. Students may also take courses across other colleges or departments

2. Curriculum Design Philosophy

  1. Curriculum Features: The department's curriculum balances artistic practice with humanistic studies and integrates media arts and technology. The curriculum emphasizes solid training in both Eastern and Western artistic practices, supplemented by theoretical studies to deepen research thinking. It aims to bridge tradition and modernity, humanities and technology, ensuring curriculum coherence and integration. It strengthens the depth and breadth across disciplines, supporting the cultivation of both professional art talents and future educators through diverse development paths.
  2. The Curriculum is Organized into Five Systems: - Western Painting Practice System
    - Ink Painting Practice System
    - Mixed Media Practice System
    - Digital Art and Creative Design System
    - Art and Design Theory System

    These five systems address students' needs for both career readiness and academic advancement, allowing them to choose their graduation specialization according to personal interests and career planning, and to develop strong professional competencies in fine arts.

Curriculum and Teaching Features

1. Features of the BA Program Curriculum

  1. Emphasizes coherence and integration across the curriculum
  2. Balances depth and breadth across different fields
  3. Fosters both professional art talents and educators, enhancing domestic and international competitiveness
  4. The undergraduate curriculum is organized into five major systems:

(1) Western Painting Practice System
(2) Ink Painting Practice System
(3) Mixed Media Practice System
(4) Digital Art and Creative Design System
(5) Art and Design Theory System

These five systems aim to meet students' needs for both employment and further studies. Students select a specialization for their graduation project based on their interests and career plans, developing their professional skills in fine arts. A minimum of 128 credits is required for graduation.
As a teacher-training department, the undergraduate curriculum has been adjusted according to the updated curriculum guidelines for junior and senior high schools, effective from 2010 (Republic of China Year 99), and has passed the Ministry of Education’s review for the following four areas: - Junior High School: Arts and Humanities Field
- Senior High School: Fine Arts Subject
- Vocational High School: Fine Arts Subject
- Senior High School: Arts and Life Field

2. Teaching Features

The department is dedicated to nurturing students with diverse development potential in the visual arts field. Teaching content is aligned with contemporary trends, emphasizing the exploration of visual arts theory and the cultivation of creativity. Computer-based media tools are integrated into communication training.
A balanced development of painting, mixed media, design, imagery, and installation art is emphasized, integrating humanities, arts, and technology to meet contemporary society's and students' needs for artistic career planning.

Teaching features are summarized as follows:

  1. Focuses on enhancing students’ abilities in artistic creation and theory through effective curriculum and teaching, understanding societal needs, and developing diverse visual languages applicable to the visual culture industries.
  2. Cultivates integrated development in the visual arts, promoting multi-material and multimedia expressions, diverse technology-driven approaches, and new lifestyle trends. Courses include material studies, media, form, art history, and theory, with emphasis on providing environments and experiences tailored to individual interests and fostering diverse integrative skills and self-expression.
  3. Strengthens students' proficiency in using computer media, balancing tradition and innovation, and integrating technology and humanities, equipping students with a global perspective and a spirit aligned with contemporary technology and culture.
